PHILOSOPHY & VISION

MISSION STATEMENT

The Bay-Nimoy Early Childhood Center at Temple Israel offers early childhood programs to children ages 0-5 years old and their families in a warm and nurturing Jewish environment. Our center is committed to providing a meaningful and developmentally based program that embraces play-based, emergent, and outdoor curricula. Each child’s unique style of living and learning is respected and fostered. Jewish values and traditions such as Tikkun Olam are celebrated and interwoven into our programs, drawing upon the important connection between the children, their families, and the vibrant Temple Israel of Hollywood community at large.

AUTHENTIC LEARNING

Our developmental curriculum is based on the best practices of “whole child” philosophies and schools of thought, including Reggio Emilia, High Scope, Montessori, Dewey, Piaget and Vygotsky. Play-based, purposeful activity with natural objects and real-life tasks creates a positive environment where children learn to enjoy the process of learning, rather than simply the end product.

What happens in the classroom is supported by parent education workshops, holiday celebrations, spiritual activities and a working partnership with staff, parents, clergy and the close-knit community of Temple Israel of Hollywood.

TEACHING FROM THE HEART

Dedicated, creative and beloved by children and parents, our teachers continually enrich lessons and activities based on the latest research, advancements and educational tools for fostering each child’s individual needs. By devotedly and expertly observing, listening, and ref lecting, our teachers come to know each child’s stage of development and readiness. By integrating individual needs and social context, our teachers encourage each child’s emerging abilities, skills and growth.

In addition to our regular staff and specialists in music, gymnastics and library, our after-school enrichment program is taught by a host of professionals in art, dance, f itness, crafts, cooking and more.
